9 items extracted from FO 371/7630. Central Europe. Maps showing territory of the Austro-Hungarian empire subsequently divided between Hungary and Romania.
(1-6, 9) 14 sheets of a printed map, in German, on multiple sheets, joined to form 7 maps showing relief, roads, towns, and railway and telegraph lines. (1) Sheet number 5565: 'Makó und Nagyszentmiklós [now Sânnicolau Mare]': a single sheet. (2) Map consisting of 2 joined sheets, of which the more northerly is number 5466: 'Mezökovácsháza u. Kürtös [now Curtici]'; the combined map extends as far south as Theresiopolis (now Vinga). (3) Sheet number 5367: 'Sarkad und Kis Jenö [now Chisineu-Cris]': a single sheet. (4) Map consisting of 2 joined sheets, of which the more northerly is number 4869: 'Jank'; the combined map extends as far south as Tasnad. (5) Map consisting of 2 joined sheets, of which the more northerly is number 4770: 'Nacy-Szöllös [i.e. Nagyszöllös; now Vynohradiv, Ukraine] und Huszt [now Khust, Ukraine]'; the combined map extends as far south as Szatmarnémeti (now Satu Mare) on the Szamos (Somes) River. (6) Map consisting of 2 joined sheets, of which the more northerly is number 5267: 'Nagy-Szalonta [now Salonta]' and the more southerly is a copy of item 3. (9) Map consisting of 4 joined sheets, of which the north-western is number 5067: 'Hajdu-Szoboszlo und Esztár', and the north-eastern is number 5068: 'Szalacs und Bihar-Dioszeg [now Diosig]'; the combined map covers the area between 21° and 22°E and between 47° and 47°30'N. Reference tables to all of the above items. All items based on a survey of 1884; variously drawn by Acham, Jersche, Lendle Ritter von Murgthal, J Le Gay Edler von Lierfels, Mirilovic, Perakovic, Rucker, Schmidt, Spaczek, and A Vogel; corrected to various dates between 1909 and 1914. The symbols used are those adopted in 1894. MS additions, coloured, to all of the above items, showing Hungarian and Romanian areas laid down by Article 27 the Treaty of Trianon, [4 June 1920], and a provisional frontier; the additions to items 1-5 also showing commune boundaries and areas noted as being Hungarian and Romania in a lettre d'envoi [of 6 May 1920]; the additions to item 9 also showing a frontier adopted by the Hungary-Romania Boundary Commission. A cyclostyled sheet affixed to the face of item 6 bears the title: 'Carte d'ensemble de la Frontière entre la Roumanie et la Hongrie Section"E"'; a similar, cyclostyled sheet affixed to the face of item 9 bears the title: 'Carte d'ensemble de la Frontière entre la Roumanie et la Hongrie Section"G"'. Each of items 1-6 and 9 has affixed to its face a cyclostyled sheet bearing a reference table, in French, to the MS additions.
(7) Sketch map of the area covered by item 6, showing Hungarian and Romanian areas laid down by Article 27 of the Treaty of Trianon, frontiers proposed by the Hungarian and Romanian delegations [to the Boundary Commission], and the frontier adopted by the commissioners; MS, coloured, on tracing cloth. 2 cyclostyled sheets are affixed to the face of the map: one bearing the same title as that affixed to item 6, the other bearing a reference table. (8) Sketch map of the area covered by item 9, showing the same details as item 7; MS, coloured. 2 cyclostyled sheets are affixed to the face of the map: one bearing the same title as that affixed to item 9, the other bearing a reference table.

(1-5) Originally Annexes 20-24, respectively, to a report of the Hungary-Romania Boundary Commission, 9 April 1922. These maps were forwarded to the Foreign Office by Lieutenant Colonel A Russell in a despatch of 26 July 1922; the remainder of the report had already been forwarded by him in a despatch of 30 May 1922. (6-9) Originally enclosed in Russell's [despatch] number 13, 1 September 1922.
