During the period covered by the maps on this roll, Genoa and its territory became, in turn, the (French-controlled) Ligurian Republic (1797-1805), part of the French Empire (1805-1815) and part of Piedmont-Sardinia, under the House of Savoy, (1815-1861); in 1861 Piedmont-Sardinia became part of unified Italy.
