Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. 'L'Empire d'Allemagne et ce que l'on peut comprendre en general sous le nom d'Allemagne que les Naturels du Païs appellent Teutschland. Par Mr. Sanson, Geographe ordinaire du Roi': map, on 4 joined sheets, covering western and central Europe between Calais, France; Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russian Federation); Zeng, Hungary (now Senj, Croatia), and Vienne, France; showing mountains, rivers, lakes, towns and political divisions. Reference table to 'cercles' [i.e. Kreise: local government units]; notes on states and areas. Drawn by [Nicolas] Sanson [the elder]; calligraphy by L Cordier; engraved by Delahaye. This map apparently dates from between 1661, when Cordier started work at the Sanson firm, and the elder Nicolas Sanson's death in 1667.
