Ottoman Empire: Turkey: Erzerum [now Erzurum]. Two maps of the town. (1) 'Plan of Erzerum from the Reconnaissance of Col Ushakov on the Staff of Prince Paskievitch': showing the terrain, buildings, and roads. Scale: the verbal statement is 1 inch to 700 feet [1:8,400], but the scale bar shows 3 inches to 1853 feet [1:7,412]. Drawn at the Topographical and Statistical Depot, War Department, November 1855. A pencilled note states: 'Orig[ina]l of 20'; is uncertain whether or not this is a reference to item (2). (2) Sketch plan, on a sheet ruled in 3-inch squares, showing buildings, roads and fortifications; beyond the town moat, only fortifications are shown. Scale: 24 inches to 1 mile [1:2,640] (shown on the dorse]. Dimensions: (1) 61 cm x 90 cm; (2) 97 cm x 211 cm.
