Description

27 items (numbered 1-5, 6a, 6b, 7-26), comprising information related to proposed schemes for bridge and ferry crossings of the River Thames near to the Tower of London, November 1883 and November 1884, presented at the Parliamentary Sessions of 1884 and 1885, respectively. (1, 8, 19, 21-23, 26) Cover sheets. (2-3, 17-18) Copies of proposals presented to Parliament in 1884: (2-3) for bridges at the Tower, Stepney and Greenwich; (17-18) for a ferry crossing at the Tower. (4-5, 6A, 6B) and (9-16) Booklets of reference tables to properties affected by these schemes.

(7, 20, 24-25) Middlesex: Stepney (now in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets); Surrey: Bermondsey (now in the London Borough of Southwark). Four sheets of plans and sections; lithographed, item (24) coloured. (7) Plan, longitudinal sections and cross section of the proposed site for the Tower Bridge scheme of 1883, presented to Parliament in 1884. (20) Plan and section of the proposed site for the ferry scheme, dated as item (7). (24) Plan showing the proposed site for the Tower Bridge scheme of 1884, presented at the Parliamentary Session of 1885; reference notes. (25) One longitudinal section and two cross-sections of the same scheme as item (24). Scale: (7) plan, sections (horizontal scale): 1 inch to about 90 feet [1:1,080], longitudinal sections (vertical scale): 1 inch to about 80 feet [1:960], cross-section (vertical scale): 1 inch to about 40 feet [1:480]; (20) plan, section (horizontal scale): 1 inch to 66 feet [1:792], section (vertical) 1 inch to 33 feet [1:396]; (24) 1 inch to 66 feet; (25) horizontal scale: 1 inch to 66 feet [1:792], vertical scale: 1 inch to 40 feet.
