Description

19 unnumbered items, formerly part of FO 95/647. South-Eastern Europe. (i) 'Annex 2, to Protocol of Paris of January 6th 1857': 12 copies of a map of the Danube delta and territory (now in Romania and Ukraine) inland as far as Galati, showing an area to be restored to the Ottoman Empire. Scale: 1:456,192 (calculated). (ii) 'Annex 1, to Protocol of Paris of January 6th 1857': 7 copies of a map showing the Bessarabian boundary [between the Ottoman and Russian Empires] from the Black Sea to north of Bolhrad (now in Ukraine), and thence to the confluence of the River Jijia and the River Prut (near the present border between Moldova and Romania); also showing Trajan's upper and lower walls. The first copy of this map is coloured differently from the other 6. Scale: 1:211,622 (calculated). All items lithographed and printed by the Topographical and Statistical Depot, War Department, under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Jervis; Annex 1 dated 15 January 1857. All items signed: Cowley, Hübner, Walewski, Hatzfeldt, Brunnow, Villamarina and Mehemmed-Djemil, Plenipotentiaties at the Conference of Paris. Dimensions: (i) each about 30 cm x 43 cm; (ii) each about 98 cm x 68 cm.
