The Air and Military History is an account of the war based almost entirely on Sigint, other documents being used only where clarification was needed. The rationale of the Naval History was rather different. At the end of the war the entire German Admiralty archive was captured and further information, mainly of a strategic nature, was obtained from high ranking German naval officers. Extensive use was made of these sources.
