Europe: assessment from Fieldmarshal Model for Mar 27, premature deployment by US 1st Army of three armoured divisions for break-through from Remagen bridgehead, German commanders of independent formations and of Volksturm battalions in rear area given task of combatting armoured attack; GAF attacks on Allied forces in area 25 miles north of Wuerzburg; strength and weapons return from SS Panzer Grenadier Training Battalion ordered to 19th Army for employment in Miltenberg.

Naval Headlines: operations by small battle units; Danzig-Gdansk dockyards no longer tenable, all U-boats and associated vessels to leave, Captain U-boats to transfer to Kiel; danger in waters off Norway from Allied aircraft carriers; total heavy diesel oil stocks for E-boats in Pola down to 11. 2 cubic metres, Mar 21, all fuel in Fiume consumed Mar 23; Japanese No 1 Diversion Attack Force to leave Kure for Sasebo, Mar 28; cryptographic material on Okinawa being destroyed, Allied surface forces carrying out operations in Sakashima and Okinawa areas; Japanese Special Attack Arm ordered by Chief of Staff Combined Fleet to seek out targets of opportunity.
