Description

Colonel Kent BONIFACE summaries.

Allied concentrations in Aachen area; overcrowding of localities behind front; 9th SS Corps, Budapest, anticipating elimination of German garrison; GAF Vienna reporting shortage of anti-aircraft ammunition; Goering's proclamation calling for fanatical defence of German soil; 18 months supply of fuel on Channel Islands; no further releases of naval personnel to army, naval regiments and divisions to be formed; German Air Ministry imposed restrictions on air activities in west because of increased fuel consumption in east; Gestapo called to deal with serious disintegration among civilian population Stockstadt; chlorine and sulphuric acid in store Stockstadt in danger from Allied air raids; request for blocking Westphalia industrial area; aircraft production equipment to be transferred to Bavarian Alps from Vienna and Steyr; 300,000 men in German Army Group E in Yugoslavia; von Runstedt's appeal to German troops to defeat Allied attempt to capture Ruhr industries; reinforcements requested for West Frisian Islands.

Japanese intention to hold northern Luzon for as long as possible but attach no major military importance, anticipate landings on Iwojima and Okinawa, oil installations at Palembang extensively damaged, expected to be out of action for months.

Russian Front: Hitler's orders for setting up Grenadier regiments; conduct and operational readiness of 2nd Mountain Division very good, troops not yet accustomed to large scale operations; evidence being collected for list of Allied war criminals; some 19,000 wounded to be evacuated from East Prussia to Denmark because of overcrowding in Germany, fuel and ammunition urgently required.
