Description

Western Europe: destruction and evacuation of German naval facilities at Le Havre, Tancarville, Bac du Hode, Rouen, and Le Treport, Aug 31; 2nd GAF Fighter Corps' flight operations in northern France severely curtailed by fuel shortages, Sept 1; 2nd GAF Fighter Corps to prepare to withdraw to bases in Cologne - Wiesbaden area of Germany, Sept 1; commander north-east France orders construction of blocking lines in Burgundy - Jura area, Aug 30; all major elements of 64th Corps expected to be over the Loire by Sept 3 and over Bourgogne sector by Sept 8, remaining elements together with bulk of other forces to be over the Loire by Sept 9; German official estimates of losses for the 2 months following D-Day landings, Aug 7, 144,265 casualties but only 19,914 replacements with another 16,457 in pipeline; status of armour bound for C-in-C West from ordnance stores in Germany and Austria, Aug 29; strength and available rations for German fortresses at Brest, Lorient, St Nazaire, La Rochelle and Gironde as at Sept 1.

Southern Europe: 42nd Jaeger Division in Genoa area to move to 14th Army area, Sept 1.

Japanese ambassador, Berlin: report 29 not included, annotated on contents list as lent to Colonel Hutton-Hall.
