Description

West Europe: Germans order complete evacuation of civilians from west coast of Cherbourg Peninsula, July 16; Germans claim to hold attack in Caen area with heavy Allied losses, July 16; 2nd Fighter Corps orders attacks with all available forces on Allied concentrations west and southwest of Caen from July 17; GAF fighter protection requested for 12th Panzer Division moving from southeast of Caen to north of Lisieux, July 17; Panzer Lehr front line, 352nd Infantry Division supply difficulties as Vire bridge under artillery fire, July 16; 9th SS Panzer Division in counter thrust near Gavrus, July 16; air attack on warship Tirpitz in Altenfjord, July 17, no hits.

South-east Europe: Symi apparently clear of enemy, naval signal station and 2 anti-submarine vessels destroyed by Allied commando, July 15.
