Description

Western Europe: battle group of 19th Panzer Division, which had previously fought on Russian Front and returned to southern Holland 6 weeks ago, was to return to Russian Front within a few days of July 13; orders for units of GAF Norway for July 10, saving of fuel by only reacting to large groups of Allied aircraft; 2,500 men to be transfered from GAF in Norway to the Army and Waffen SS to bring their divisions up to strength, July 9; weekly report on fighting value of troops serving with 2nd Parachute Corps as at July 11, troops considered suitable for only limited offensive employment; 3rd Parachute Division suffers heavy casualties in vain attempts to hold back Allied attack on St Lo, the division and 2nd Parachute Corps had no reserves to call upon and could be overrun in any future Allied attack; 4th Fighter Group to be withdrawn from France for rest and refit, its aircraft to be distributed amongst remaining GAF units in France, July 12; 21st Panzer Division compliments GAF on recent appearance of its aircraft over front line in Normandy, July 13; further requests on July 12 by 2nd Panzer Division for GAF aircraft to engage Allied artillery spotting aircraft in Caumont area refused, GAF operations only authorised in main battle zones; Panzer Lehr Division experiences heavy losses during Allied attacks in St Lo area on July 12; battle reports from Normandy front, July 13; 10th SS Panzer Division south of Caen expects Allied thrust across River Orne towards the south-east, July 13; 21st Panzer Division expecting major Allied attack overnight July 13/14, enemy maintaining radio silence.

Southern Europe: 20th GAF Field Division in Poggibonsi area of 14th Corps to be pulled out of battle line and resubordinated to 75th Corps, July 11, both 19th and 20th GAF Field Divisions to occupy positions at western end of the Appenine line.
