Description

Southern Europe: results of Allied bombing raids on Rome, Mar 1-3, some damage to Vatican.

Russian Front: 6th Army soon to be completely encircled, Mar 9, heavy German losses with some regiments now being down to some 80-100 survivors.

Naval Headlines: U-boat communications and events in Far East.

Japanese ambassador, Berlin: report of Mar 7 on results of Allied daylight raid on Berlin the previous day, the first such raid on this scale.

Siamese minister, Berlin: report of Mar 8 on Allied daylight raid on Berlin on Mar 6, no GAF fighter reaction and Allied aircraft dropped propaganda leaflets, also item on major developments in Finland which were still being withheld from the German public, Finland possibly a second Italy in the making.

Turkish minister, Stockholm: Swedish attempts to broker a peace agreement between Finland and the Soviet Union, Mar 9.

Turkish Foreign Ministry, Ankara: message of Mar 9 to Turkish ambassadors in London, Moscow and Washington on future Soviet intentions, an advance through Europe along the Danube.
