Southern Europe: special operation directed against Allied shipping in Naples harbour to take place during night of Jan 17/18; 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division was being replaced in northern Italy by 26th Panzer Division and was to deploy into southern partof Italy; 7 labour battalions being sent into 10th Army area to develop defensive positions; Civita Vecchia harbour had been severely damaged and that at Nettuno partially damaged by Allied air raids; Brac Island was in German hands by Jan 17; German naval authorities were expecting little opposition during planned landings on Vis Island; 2nd Panzer Army could use parachute troops in the Vis operation; planned disposition of 5th SS Mountain Corps units during forthcoming rest period; summary of German operations against guerrillas in Greece, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Albania, Jan 16.
Russian Front: 2 German divisions transferred from Leningrad Front to sector south-west of Berdichev.
