Southern Europe: on Nov 25 Germans on Leros considered it absolutely necessary, for reasons of health and security, to transport prisoners away immediately; Germans decided on Nov 25 that all possible use was to be made of Turkish territorial waters for removal of prisoners from Rhodes to Leros, probably in association with move of Italian prisoners to Greek mainland; on 23 Nov, German authorities at ports of Savona, San Remo and Imperia were making contingency plans for abandoning them and making preparations for demolition and blocking; Germans preparing for Operation DELPHIN, the capture of 6 islands in Adriatic following build up of required forces in port of Split, Nov 25-Dec 3, German cargo ship sunk off Samos, Nov 27; Junkers takes over Italian Monfalcone aircraft factory, north-west of Trieste, by Nov 25; German speculation on future Allied plans for Italy and Mediterranean area, more Allied emphasis on Italian Front and evidence for an Allied strategic reserve in areas of Tunis and Sicily; more details of Allied air raid on Toulon, Nov 24; Allied submarine and air threat forces Germans to abandon Rhodes/Scarpanto/Crete sea route, Turkish territorial waters should be used where possible for the transfer of prisoners from Rhodes to Leros, Nov 25.
Naval Headlines: includes 5 items from U-boat communications, including an instruction from Berlin on Nov 26 that because of heavy British pressure on Spain there was now a much greater risk of U-boats being interned by Spanish authorities, U-boat captains were to make pretexts for internment by Spanish authorities as difficult as possible.
