Southern Europe: transfer to mainland of staff at Messina, and Straits defences being prepared for Aug 15; GAF units in Calabria to avail themselves of empty transport space to send back stores in military value, Aug 12; provisions for disposing of aircraft fuel in event of evacuation of Calabria and Apulia, Aug 10; special mines for harbour demolition sent to Messina, July 26 and 27, Aug 12; losses of aircraft fuel by Allied action considered to have assumed intolerable proportions, Aug 12; hospital ship required to transport away from Gioia Tauro daily average of 600 sick and wounded, Aug 9.
