Southern Europe: 14th Panzer Corps claim to have destroyed or captured 267 tanks between July 10 and Aug 5; shortage of light flak ammunition catastrophic according to German authorities, Messina, Aug 7; ammunition urgently required by Germans in southern Italian area consequent on losses at Palermo and Messina, and on recent expenditure, Aug 7; operations report of 14th Panzer Corps for Aug 8; Germans were nervous of Allied landings in rear of Sicilian bridgehead, Aug 9; GAF making preparations for dismantling of Crotone airfield, Aug 8; large-scale Allied air attack on Crete expected, Aug 6; orders for state of readiness on Crete, increase in guerilla activity to be expected, and economy with fuel called for, July 27; 76th Infantry Division to transfer from Brittany to northern Italy, Aug 6.
