Southern Europe: GAF seeking confirmation of use of dive bombers by RAF in Sicily, Aug 1; transport of personnel and equipment to Corsica to be resumed, July 30; no fuel for E-boats at Crotone, Aug 1; lack of 20mm ammunition preventing effective engagement of Allied fighter bombers in Straits of Messina, July 30; hospital ship Toscana arrived Messina, July 31; Messina authorities informed to prevent desertions of Naval and dockyard personnel, July 31; routing of rail traffic through Foggia expected to be possible about Aug 3; GAF photo-reconnaisssance report, Aug 1; intentions 2nd Air Corps for Aug 2; orders for prospecting for alternative landing fields on Corsica, Aug 1; paratroops en route for new operational area on Gulf of Salerno, July 30; lists of names, addresses and particulars of families of Italian troops in part of 7th Legion in Catania required by Italian Admiralty, Rome, and order that any shirkers of duty be dealt with severely, July 31; German units in Sicily carrying out ferrying practice in Straits of Messina, night July 31-Aug 1; problems of shortage of motor transport in Southern Italy, July 29; 14th Panzer Corps informed 2nd Flak Regiment Goering to remain in Naples area for lack of transport, July 30; transport of personnel in Northern Italy blocked, July 29.
