Description

North Africa: GAF post-mortem on Allied interception of ME-323 heavy new transport aircraft, nothing to add to report of Apr 23, GAF fighters did not see the air battle, ME-323 transports did not keep to planned course; C informs PM that this message explains the recent Allied success against 20 new large Messerschmidt transport aircraft.

Turkish ambassador, Rome: Mussolini had gone to Sicily and Rommel, who had come from Germany, Admiral Donitz and Italian Chief of General Staff, General Ambrosio, had talks with him in Taormina, Mussolini returned from Sicily on Apr 19 and then headed north on his special train, allegedly en route to Germany from Rome, dispute over Tunisian campaign, Germans wished to fight to end while Italians desired to pull out, great friction between German and Italian armies, Apr 21.

Japanese minister, Madrid: report of Apr 20 containing a special intelligence report on an extract from a report originated by the Spanish ambassador in London highlighting the threat of a Communist uprising in Britain.

C informs PM that U-boat communications for Apr 22 and 23 were exploitable by UK sigint analysts.
