North Africa: supply ship with supplies for 21st Panzer Division sunk by Allied submarine, Feb 16; German secret service request from Berlin to Madrid for information on preparations for assembling an Allied amphibious force in southern England, Feb 16, reply sent on Feb 17 giving details with possible Canadian troop involvement; further German secret service request from Berlin to Madrid for confirmation that an Allied landing force was assembling in French North African harbours, Feb 17; Axis supply ship sunk by Allied submarine on Feb 17; named commander of Allied Long Range Desert Group provides details to the Germans of the role and composition of his unit, Feb 18.
