Description

North Africa: GAF sitrep for Feb 17, Axis spearhead north of Gafsa, Allied aircraft still at Thelepte airfield; Axis forces battling for Sbeitla, Feb 17; Africa Corps to hold position reached in southern Tunisia, AOC Tunis considers further thrust on Tebessa necessary, Feb 17, Rommel despatches parachute regiment to Gabes for Eastern Front; Kesselring orders recce to establish whether Allied reinforcements are being brought up to Axis attacking front from Bone - Pichon line, Feb 17; Tunis Air Corps sitrep for Feb 17, Sbeitla and 1500 prisoners captured, extensive GAF air operations planned for Feb 18 in support of Africa Corps and Panzer Army; GAF flight schedules for Feb 18, attacks against Allied targets in northern Tunisia and airfield and harbour protection at Tunis and Bizerta where important Axis unloading in progress; 21st Panzer Division thrust against Sbeitla, Feb 17, GAF air support requested; GAF 10th Air Corps considered attack on Benghazi on Feb 17 complete success in surprise and effect; AOC Tunis considers further Axis advance possible without risk, Feb 17, Allies withdrawing and Axis could capture another forward deployment base; AOC Tunis informs 21st Panzer Division that Sbeitla and Feriana were in danger of Allied air attack, also requested that US bomber bomb-sight be obtained, Feb 17; German battle group to advance from Sbeitla to Kasserine, Feb 18.
