North Africa: Panzer Army Rommel day report for Jan 21, Allied thrusts towards Tarhuna-Castel Benito road and Azizia, and against Italian garrison of Garian, assumption that Allies intend to thrust through to coast west of Tripoli, preparations for counter-measures, Garian garrison withdrawn towards Jefren; Panzer Army's report for Jan 22, Allied forces attacking Tripoli defensive positions, preparations for evacuation of Tripoli; GAF report for Jan 23, withdrawal of German-Italian Army according to plan, air reconnaissance reports of Allied troop movements, intentions for Jan 24; Bastico's report for Jan 21, desertion of Libyan troops at Ghat, garrison commander's intention to withdraw to Gadames; German request from Rome for report on performance of tanks and armoured cars in use by Italians to determine future production, Jan 17; transport ship Ruhr carrying tanks and fuel sunk en route Bizerta, Jan 22; Taranto reports tanker Thorsheimer ready to sail for Tunisia with fuel for German Army and GAF; AOC inc South calling for increased vigilance from all units in North Africa, against possible Allied landings, Jan 23.
