Description

i. Indenture by which power of attorney was granted by Adam Squire (Squyre), doctor of divinity, archdeacon of Middlesex and prebendary of Tottenham Court, founded in the cathedral church of St Paul's in London, and parson of Longworth, Berkshire, to William Thorley of Salisbury, Wiltshire, gentleman, and William Squire (Squyer) of London, gentleman, to collect and receive the procurations and other duties of the archdeaconry of Middlesex, the annual rent of £46 as the prebendary of Tottenham Court, £3 10s of the right of prebendary in the name of bread money, and £70 from the farmers of the rectory of Longworth, Berkshire, for £395 4s, for the term of 5 years.

Witness: Anthony Downes, servant to John Welles. Attached, schedule of the estimated annual profit of the archdeaconry of Middlesex, the prebendary of Tottenham Court, and the rectory of Longworth.

Seal of Adam Squire. 20 February 1584. ii. Note of documents delivered to the Court of Requests regarding a matter between Doctor [Adam] Squire and James Kynvin, listing various bonds between Adam Squire, John Bolde and William Thorley, a quitclaim made by John Bolde to Adam Squire, a deed between Adam Squire, William Thorley and William Squire, and articles of agreement between Adam Squire and Laurence Thorley. 15 June 1586. iii. Bond between John Bolde, resident of Salisbury Cathedral and professor of theology, on the one part, and Adam Squire (Squyer), master of Balliol College, Oxford, and professor of theology, for 100 marks owed to Adam Squire.

Witnesses: Thomas Stanton, George Peter and Matthew Smythe, servant to Thomas Bedford. Dorse: conditions of the bond that before 26 May 1578 a general acquittance is delivered to Adam Squire from Dorothy Bolde, daughter of John Bolde.

Seal of John Bolde. 29 April 1578. iv. Articles of agreement between Adam Squire (Squyre), doctor of divinity, and Laurence Thorley, clerk, regarding Adam Squire assigning the occupation of the rectory of Longworth, Berkshire, to Laurence Thorley, for the term of 21 years. Dorse: witness: Anthony Downes, servant of John Welles.
