Description

Letters patent confirming the custom of paying 5s per ton of every new ship built in England, granting the appointment of surveyor to John Grent, gentleman, to rate the tonnage of all new built ships, with an annuity of 1s a day for life, paid quarterly out of the exchequer. Choice of appointment endorsed by [Charles Howard, earl of] Nottingham. Dated at Greenwich.
