Refers to Cuthbert Vaughan, Richard Longe knight, and Ralph Bowis esquire as previous holders of the office. [Edward Allen, theatre entrepreneur, attempted unsuccessfully to obtain this office in 1598 on the death of Ralph Bowes.]
