Indenture between dame Katherine Longe of Wraxall in Wiltshire, widow, late wife of Sir Walter Longe, knight, and William Christmas, of Holbury [in Fawley] in Hampshire, gentleman, and Cecily his wife, late wife of Henry Audley, esquire, deceased, and his sole executrix, by which Katherine confirms an earlier indenture (see below). The covenants refer to the claims of William Longe, a minor, son and heir of Katherine and Walter; of John Tichborne, late of 'Longwood' in Hampshire, gentleman, deceased; and of Thomas Leysons, now or late of Bath, physician. The earlier indenture referred to, dated 8 August 1598, was between George Powlet of Holbury in Hampshire, esquire, and Alice his wife, and the above Henry Audley, described as of 'Henlighe' in Hampshire, esquire. George and Alice covenanted to grant by final concord, before 1 December following, to Henry and his assigns and executors, for the term of 41 years, the manor of Holbury, four tenements in Holbury (details given), with various closes, parcels of land, wood, marsh, and water (details given) in Holbury, Fawley, and 'Cadland'; with herbage, pannage, housebote, haybote, etc.; reserving to George and Alice and the heirs and assigns of Alice the wood, underwood and coppice; Holbury mill; and view of frankpledge and its appurtenances. Henry to pay £30 13s. 4d. yearly. The fine was duly levied and Henry Audley entered and was in possession, and his title has lawfully come to William and Cecily.
Signed by William Christmas. Seal.
[Endorsed] Witnesses: William Stokes, George Hamond, Francis Benett and Francis Buckley.
