Description

Copies [?made before 1599] of documents relating to Lutterworth and Walton [Leicestershire] and Lilbourne [Northamptonshire]. (i) Rental of Lutterworth, 1517-18 free or assized rents (ii) rental of Lutterworth, 14 January 1538, made by Henry, Lord Ferrers of Groby and (named) officers: free or assized rents. (iii) common fines at Lilbourne in the fee once of Robert Waucy [no date; refers to John Tresham esquire and William Whitehed, butcher; cf. (v) below] (iv) common fines at Lilbourne in 'Walshes fees' [no date; contemporary with (iii)] (v) grant, 29 October 1450, by John Whythed of Lilbourne, son of Thomas Whythed late of the same, William Whythed, butcher, and Henry Whytehed his brother, of the same, and heir of the above John son of Thomas, to Edward Grey, knight, Lord Astley, and his heirs and assigns, of all their lands, tenements, rents, reversions, and services in Lilbourne and Claycoton. The grantors have the same by charter of John Whytehed senior, once of Lilbourne, made to John son of Thomas, William, and Henry, and the heirs of John, with remainder to William and Henry and their heirs.

Witnesses: John Swynford; William Elkington; John Maltby; John Scot; Richard Cobbe of Lilbourne. (vi) rental, 1419-20, detailing rents due to Thomas Asteley, knight, from the lands and tenements of the fee of Astley held by William Harper, gentleman, in Lilbourne, late of John Cok, in right of Margaret, William's wife, daughter of John. (vii) four charters relating to Walton near Kimcote in Leicestershire: (a) grant by Elias de Ringesdona, to William his bastard son, and his heirs, for his homage and service, of two virgates of land, and a dwelling-place (mansio), five strips (culturas) of land (details given), and a third virgate of land with its (named) tenants, in Walton. To hold of the grantor and his heirs paying 12d. yearly and doing the due forinsec service.

Witnesses: Hugh Burdet, Simon de..ipell, Robert his brother, Achard the monk, Walter Bugge, Reynold Paffarde, William the clerk, Robert son of Osbert, Roger de Waltuna, Gilbert his son, Simon his son, Ivo son of Reynold de Mortuna, William White (Albo) and Alan son of Ralph. (b) Quitclaim by Richard son of Geoffrey de Wallcot, of Lutterworth, to Robert de Pulteneye, of a piece of meadow called 'le Scheld' in 'Wantingdon' in Walton.

Dated at Cotesbach, 9 August 1361.

Witnesses: Philip Purefey, Laurence de Belgrave, William son of Philip Purefey, William de Countesthorpe. (c) Grant by Thomas de Coton, to William son of Adam de Catethorpe, and his heirs and assigns, of meadow of half a virgate of land in 'Wantingdon' in Walton (details given).

Dated at Kimcote, 12 November 1361.

Witnesses: Robert Froue of Walton, William Colman of the same, Robert Stere of Kimcote, Richard the alien (Aliani) of the same and John Large of Walcote. (d) Grant by William son of Adam de Catthorpe, to Robert de Pulteney, and his heirs and assigns, of a portion (dolus) of meadow (details given) in 'Wantingdon' in Walton.
