Description

Indented letters of attorney by Sir Roger Townshend, knight, confirming his grant to John Gygges of Burnham, St Clements, gentleman, of all his messuages, lands, tenements, rents, services, closes, liberties etc in the towns and fields of Burnham St. Clements, aforesaid, Burnham Sutton and Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk, which were lately held by Walter Marsh of London, mercer, as by an indenture between Gygges and Marsh on 25 November 1534 (WARD 2/51/177/19) more plainly appears. The which lands were granted by Townshend to the sole occupation and use of Gygges, his hers and assigns, as specified in an indenture of 28 November 1534, under condition that Gygges pays £53 6s 8d in even portions paid on specified days, to Townshend at the church of St Mary in Raynham. The which sum has not been paid. Townshend has appointed John Rolffe of Southwark, Surrey, and James Grey of North Creake, Norfolk, as his attorneys to enter and take full and peaceful possession of the said messuages, lands etc, in Townshend's name, and expel Gygges, his heirs and assigns forever. Endorsed with a note that seisin was made on 10 February 1537, witnessed by William Gonny, John Dix, John Blyford, John Wourtley, Paul Warne, Christopher Short, Roger Mauncey, John Browdisshe, Thomas Dix, John Thurlowe, John Bruder, John Flecher, Roger Chamberleyn, John Burdon, Oliver Wadell, Thomas Coley and others Counterpart of WARD 2/51/177/31
