Description

Copy of an indenture, dated at Bag Enderby [Lincolnshire] 28 August 1333, between (1) Roger le Storour of Tetford [Lincolnshire] and Beatrice his wife and (2) Avice who was the wife of William son of John atte Kyrke of Bag Enderby, recording the settlement of a dispute between the two parties over the wardship of a bovate of land called 'Robinlande' in Bag Enderby during the minority of Margery daughter and heir of the above William. Roger and Beatrice claimed that William held the bovate of them in right of Beatrice by homage, fealty, scutage (specified) and 1 lb. cumin yearly; Avice claimed the wardship as the next parent of Margery claiming that the bovate was held by 1 lb. cumin yearly only. Twelve jurors (named) of Bag Enderby, Tetford and Somerby [Lincolnshire] stated that the bovate was held of Roger and Beatrice in right of Beatrice by knight service, namely homage, fealty, scutage (specified) and 1 lb. cumin yearly; and that Philip atte Kyrke, grandfather of Margery, paid 2s. 6d. to Walter de Walmesgar, father of Beatrice, for a scutage that fell in his time. After which verdict Roger and Beatrice took custody of the bovate and delivered ? to Avice as dower.
