Description

Inspeximus of William Longespée (Lungespeie) of a charter of Ela countess of Salisbury, his mother, by which she granted in free widowhood, for the soul of Earl William Longespée, her husband, and the souls of Ela herself and of William, her firstborn son, and of all of her children and heirs, to the abbey of SS Bernard and Mary, Lacock, and to the nuns there, her manor of Lacock and the advowson of the church there, and the manors of Hatherop [Gloucestershire], Bishopstrow (Bisopestre) [Wiltshire], and a moiety of the manor of Heddington (Hedintune) [Wiltshire] which fall to her by a final concord between her and Humphrey de Bohun made in the king's court concerning the honor of Trowbridge (Treubrigge), and the advowson of the church of Shrewton (Winterburne Sireuetune), so that the nuns might hold these properties in free alms. Witnesses: Sir Walter de Godardvile (Codarduile); Sir Thomas de Eblesburne [Ebbesbourne]; Sir Nicholas Malemeins; Adam, rector of Gaddesden (Gatesdene); Richard Longespée; John Moul; Master Roger de Stokes; Roger de Baskervile; Peter de Salceto; Peter, parson of Trowbridge; Philip de Depeford, clerk; Thomas Makerel, clerk; Robert de Holte [Holt], clerk; and others.
