Description

Letters patent by which Ela [Longespée], countess of Salisbury grants in her widowhood and liege power, for her soul and that of William Longespée (Lungespeie), her husband, their ancestors, and of William Longespée (Lungespeie), her son, and of all of her other children and heirs, to St Mary and St Bernard and the nuns at Lacock, her manor of Lacock with the advowson of the church there, the manors of Hatherop (Gloucestershire) and Bishopstrow (Bisopestre) [Wiltshire], a moiety of the manor of Heddington (Hedintune) [Wiltshire] which belongs to her by a final concord made with Humphrey de Bohun (Boun) in the king's court concerning the honor of Trowbridge (Trevbrigge), and the advowson of the church of Shrewton (Winterborne Sireuetune) [Wiltshire], with all liberties and free customs in all such places. The nuns are to hold all in free alms forever. Witnesses: Walter de Godarville (Godardvile); Thomas de Eblesburne [Ebbesbourne]; Nicholas Malemeins; Adam, rector of the church of Great Gaddesden (Gatesdene) [Hertfordshire]; Richard Longespée (Lungesp'); John de Moul; Master Roger de Stokes; Sir Roger de Baskerville; Peter de Salceto; Sir Peter, parson of Trowbridge; Philip de Depeford, clerk; Thomas Makerel, clerk; Robert de Holte [Holt], clerk; and others. Seal and tag missing.
