Indenture between Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton, Lord Privy Seal, Edward, Lord Wotton, Controller of His Majesty Household, Sir Robert Cotton, of Cunnington, Huntingdonshire, Thomas Harrison of Brainford, Middlesex, esquire, Robert Bowyer and Henry Ellsinge of Middle Temple, London, esquires, and William Essex of Chipping Lambourn, Berkshire, esquire, on the first part and Philip Seymer, of Wallop, Hampshire, William Seymer, of Ogbourne, Wiltshire, John Blagrove, of Lambourn Woodland, in the parish of Chipping Lambourn, and Richard Pococke, of Chiveley, Berkshire, all yeomen, on the other part, stating the sale to Philip and William Seymer, John Blagrove and Richard Pococke, for 5s. paid to Henry, Earl of Northampton, Edward, Lord Wotton, Robert Cotton and Thomas Harrison, and £549 15s. paid to Robert Bowyer and Henry Ellsinge, according to an indenture dated 19 October 1609, of a messuage with appurtenances in Chipping Lambourn, called "Chiselldons" and 2 pastures, called "Great Savage" and "Little Savage", 4 closes, 1 coppice of wood ground, 278 acres of arable land, 9 acres of land, with appurtenances, barns, edifices, houses, buildings, stables, gardens, orchards, ways, profits, easements, commodities, hereditaments and a cottage or tenement in Chipping Lambourn with appurtenances. According to the will of John Seymer, deceased, the lands are held to the use of Elizabeth Seymer, his widow, and they shall go to Thomas Seymer when he reaches the age of 25 years and 1/3 of them to Elizabeth Seymer for the term of her life. Philip and William Seymer, John Blagrove and Richard Pococke have to pay to Lord Northampton, Lord Wotton, Robert Cotton, Thomas Harrison, Robert Bowyer and Henry Ellsing a yearly rent of 12s., as in letters patent by the King dated 4 December 1609, granting the licence to create the socage tenure of the said lands.
