Description

Indented exchange between Roger de Chedle [Cheadle], knight, and Alan Bercator [Shepherd] of Clifton [Cheshire], and Matilda, his wife, by which Roger grants to Alan and Matilda a messuage and assart in Timperley [Cheshire], previously held by Robert Fayrchilde, in exchange for the land that Alan and his wife had in Clifton from Richard, son of Adam le Thrower. For this, Alan and Matilda shall pay 5s 4½d per year to Roger. If they die without heirs, the messuage and assart shall remain to Adam le Thrower, and if he dies without heirs, it shall remain to Roger and his heirs. Witnesses: Hugh de Dutton and Peter de Werburton [Warburton], knights, Thomas de Hale, then steward of Halton (Hauelton) [Cheshire], Geoffrey de Werburton, Richard de Aston, John the clerk, and others. Two seals.
