Description

Release and delivery of lands by Thomas Maistresson, escheator in Cheshire to Ralph le Maynwaring and Margery, his wife and widow of Richard Bulkeley of Cheadle, according to the letters close from the king to Maistresson, dated at Chester on 28 September 1392, rehearsing an inquisition into the lands of Richard Bulkeley held by John le Leche, former escheator in Cheshire, on 9 February 1391, which found that he held half of the town of Timperley with appurtenances, worth 100s. annually, lands in Church Hulme, worth 4 marks annually, lands in Warmingham worth 6s. 8d., lands in Newton, worth 20s., lands in Sutton, worth 13s. 4d., lands in Occleston, with appurtenances, worth 6s. 8d., a horse-mill, with cottage and a plot of empty land, in Middlewich, worth 2s., lands, a mossy place ("placea messeti") and a watermill with appurtenances in Stanthorne, worth 3s. 4d., one messuage and 40 acres of land with appurtenances in Whatcroft, worth 10s. Moreover Nicholas de Vernon was seized of lands in Whatcroft (except one messuage and 40 acres) and he granted them to Richard de Vernon and Hugh le Mon with condition that the lands shall return to the heirs of Richard Bulkeley. A later inquisition dated 26 September, found out that Richard Bulkeley the day before dying granted all his lands in Cheshire to Richard le Vernon and Hugh le Mon and they granted them to Margery his wife. Ralph le Maynwaring and Margery shall pay a fine of 13.4d. to the Exchequer in Cheshire.
