Indenture between John Hole of the parish of St. Thomas the Apostle without the west gate of Exeter, Devon, and George Rudgwaye and Richard Rudgwaye, sons of Thomas Rudgwaye esq., testifying that whereas John Huckmore esq. of Buckland Baron, by a recognisance of statute staple dated 28 June 1580, recognised a debt of £2, 000 to Philip Bassett esq., and whereas Bassett had caused the statute to be executed herein in that, by writ of extent to the then sheriff of Devon, proceedings were commenced to recover the debt from Huckmore's lands and properties sued in the court of Chancery and directed to the sheriff of Devon, and by a writ of liberate delivered by the sheriff to Bassett, to be held as his freehold until full satisfaction of the debt, and whereas Philip Bassett, by an indented deed of 4 February 1581, sold the statute and recognisance together with all damages to Thomas Rudgwaye esq., along with the lands and tenements so appraised and extended, and whereas Thomas Rudgwaye, by his deed dated 18 April 1581, sold the recognisance, manors, lands, tenements and other premises delivered in execution as payment of the debt to John Hole and William Ley, together with his title to a moiety of the manor of South Allington, a parcel of these properties, and selling his [Hole's] moiety of this bargain to George and Richard Rudgwaye.

Endorsed: Sealed and delivered to John Stowkey to the use of George and Richard Rudgwaye, 23 November 1585. Also endorsed: Thomas Southate and Richard Sparry.
