Register of salaried officers [pages 1-250] - Miscellaneous Departments. Includes clerks, apprentices, engineers, draughtsmen, clergymen, schoolmasters and mistresses, ships crew, hotel staff, surgeons, storekeepers, cashiers etc.
Gives details of first appointment/date of entry into service, age (very rarely given), name, capacity, rate of salary per annum and remarks including dates and information on where the staff member came from/went to or whether they resigned or were dismissed.
Arranged according to department (audit, engineering, locomotive, carriage, telegraph, steam boat, solicitors, signalling, accountants, hotels etc) and station (Euston, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Lancaster, Crewe, Rugby, Stafford, Bangor, Holyhead, Wolverton, Carlisle etc).
The documents in RAIL 410/1837, 1844 and 1854 appear to form a Salaried Staff Register for the period up to 1878. These volumes are not arranged sequentially within this record series; their arrangement is as follows:
