Description (What the record is about)
-
County: Staffordshire. Grant description and date(s): hearth tax granted by Parliament 1662 May 19. Document description: exemption certificates. 883 folios comprising 860 certificates, 5 contemporary title sheets prefacing bundles, 4 fragments and one modern (19th century) wrapper.
Described and dated at item level.
Includes names of individuals. As well as the certificates which were in the boxes of E 179/343 and E 179/344, 123 certificates come from a canvas bag with the reference E 179/352/4, which housed Shropshire and Staffordshire certificates. The Staffordshire certificates from the bag are dated from 13 May 1673 to 13 Sept 1673, and are noted in the Catalogue as having come from this bag; the bag label says they were for the year ended Lady Day 1673. None from the bag were for Pirehill hundred, but perhaps the Pirehill roll of certificates became separated at some time.
