Abandoned film projects. This file includes correspondence relating to the revision of the Films Division's production programme in May 1940 due to the evacuation from Dunkirk, including details of the films to be abandoned, draft letters to be sent to the producers of these projects, and costs incurred. The file also includes: a list of film projects abandoned between 1942 and 1943, a report on abandoned films in December 1944, correspondence on the possible abandonment of expensive productions such as the Crown Film Unit production'The New Teacher', a summary of revenue generated by the commercial distribution of films from 1940 to 1944, and a series of letters detailing films abandoned in 1945.
This catalogue description was enhanced in 2018 as a result of a project led by Professor Simon Eliot (University of London) and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The project was entitled 'Make Do and Mend: A Publishing History of the Ministry of Information, 1939-1946'. OPEN IN 1972.
