General policy. This file includes information concerning the relationship between Films Division and the User Division; a memorandum detailing the official British films issued during the First World War (June 1939) and letters to and from Sir Joseph Ball (Head of Films Division) that highlight his ideas. It also contains documents relating to the tenures of Kenneth Clark and Jack Beddington as Heads of the Films Division and correspondence related to a Policy Committee meeting focusing on publicity in America.
This catalogue description was enhanced in 2018 as a result of a project led by Professor Simon Eliot (University of London) and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The project was entitled 'Make Do and Mend: A Publishing History of the Ministry of Information, 1939-1946'.
