Bound volumes arranged chronologically within the following subject headings: Despatches (letters of the Governors), Offices (letters of government departments and other organisations), and Individuals (arranged alphabetically). Early volumes (1878-1880) described as Despatches to and from High Commissioners. Each volume with a contents list, or a précis of each letter giving name of correspondent, date of letter and subject matter. From 1925/6 arrangement is by subject files.

Formerly part of the Ottoman Empire, Cyprus was handed over to Britain by Turkey for administrative purposes in 1878. Responsibility for Cyprus affairs was transferred from the Foreign Office to the Colonial Office on 6 December 1880. Cyprus became an independent republic on 16 August 1960 and a member of the Commonwealth on 13 March 1961.
