N4289. Contested cause.
Captured ship: Nieuw Ephrata (master Jan Engelman).
History: a Dutch merchant ship (300 tons, 19 men) bound from Surinam to Amsterdam, laden with coffee and cotton; taken on 4 June 1803 between the Isles of Scilly and Land's End by HMS Doris (Richard Henry Pearson commanding) before the declaration of hostilities against the Batavian Republic, and brought into Plymouth.
