Captured ship: Diamond of London (James Clarke master). [D1169].
History: an English slave ship, trading from London to Guinea to Havana, taken on the return voyage from Cuba by the French privateer Bellona and retaken by HMS Goliath, August 1803.
Documents: Administrative books of the Dutch West India Company and successors for the establishment (including slaves) in Dutch West Africa [Dutch Guinea or Dutch Gold Coast, now Ghana]. Dutch establishment at Elmina etc, wrapped in [original ?] paper with a label addressing them to the Raaden Den Colonien Van Den Staat in de Westindien, as follows, all from 1795:-
1. 'Lyst der Boeken & Papieren Concerneende 't Soldij Compoir Onder Ultimo December 1795'. A list of the books and papers marked AB, CD, EF, GH, JK, LM, NO, PQ, RS, TU, VW, XY and Z, and nos 1-5.
2. Duplicates of 1/Nos 1-4.
3. Duplicates of 1/AB, LM, RS, TU, VW and XY.
4. No 5: 'Qualificatie Boekje' (duplicate).
5. Book CD: 'Soldij Boek.. Kamer Amsterdam' (duplicate).
6. Book EF: 'Soldij Boek.. Kamer Zeeland' (duplicate).
7. Book GH: 'Soldij Boek.. Kamer Noorder Quartier' (duplicate).
8. Book JK: 'Soldij Boek.. Kamer Stad en Lande' (duplicate).
9. Book LM: 'Soldij Boek.. Kamer Maaze' (duplicate).
