Captured ship: Le Basque of Bordeaux (master Dominique Dascoube), formerly La Magdalene and other names.
The papers of this case are split between two pieces: see HCA 32/277/7 for the capture history and description of the court papers, which are in that piece. This piece, HCA 30/728, contains the ships papers taken from the prize by the captors.

- SP 1-SP 6, SP 8, SP 10: false papers purporting to show the ship sailed for Bordeaux from Saint-Domingue.
- SP 7: brevet de contrôle de passage from Bordeaux.
- SP 8: false muster / role de l'equipage (false as regards place of origin, but probably accurate as to names).
- SP 9: certificate of health from Bordeaux.

- SP 11, 14, 17, 19, 20, 28, 30: papers selected by the court as evidence, all in English (hence no translations of the ship's papers):
- SP 11: clearance under bond to sail from New Bern, North Carolina, America.
- SP 14: invoice of tobacco sent from Edenton to New Bern for Dascoube.
- SP 17: Dascoube's account current with Savage & Westmore, Edenton.
- SP 19: receipt for Dascoube's tobacco, Edenton.

Note on currency: All the sums of money given in £sd at New Bern relate to the local colonial pound, which evidently equalled 10/- sterling (see SP 74/44).
