Captured ship: Le Triton, Mathieu Sauvage master.
Details: French merchant ship captured on a voyage from Cap Français, Saint-Domingue (French West Indies) to France in 1756.
Documents: c550 personal and business letters (in French) from Saint-Domingue and Louisiana for onward delivery to various places in France (and at least one to Port Louis, Canada). Also, a petition from Marc Antoine Duhart, a resident of Cap Français and officer in the colonial militia, to the Comte D'Argenson, French Secretary of State for War. (Note: 96 of the letters in this piece are listed in a typescript list included in the box).
