Description

Ship's name: Spanish galleons from the Battle of Vigo.

Nationality: Spanish

Port(s) of departure: Veracruz, Mexico.

Destination(s): Vigo, Spain.

Type of voyage: Part of the Spanish Fleet under the command of General Don Manuel de Belasco Tejada (Velasco y Tejada).

Particulars: Merchant and private correspondence including that of Captain Don Pedro Munarriz, Captain Juan Matheos Yanez (Yañez) and Bernardo de Rolandegui, Procurator General of the Jesuits.

A label in a small fragment of sack reads: 'In this bag are papers and packets relating to the Spanish Galleons taken at Vigo which were brought in by Captain Thomas Dilkes, 1 December 1702'. This enclosure contains a religious illustration and Holy Communion notes from Mexico Cathedral, dated 1700.
