Description

Files of the Directorate of Works (London) of the Ministry of Works and then of the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works and those of the London Region of the Property Services Agency relating to maintenance, repair and restoration work on government buildings and on royal palaces and parks in the London area, for which the London Region had special responsibility.

The LSS series of files was raised circa 1974 by the newly formed PSA London Region. It consists mainly of files re-registered from the WY series of the former Directorate of Works (London) relating to the case work of the Special Services Section.

The Property Services Agency's London Region was established around 1974. The Special Services Section of the Directorate of Works (London), and from circa 1974 of the London Region of the PSA, employed building surveyors and engineers overseen by a Superintending Manager to deal with maintenance, repair and restoration work on special buildings in the Greater London area, such as Ancient Monuments, Museums & Art Galleries, Historic Buildings, Royal Parks and Palaces and the Houses of Parliament.
