Description

Dardanelles: operations 19 February to 17 March 1915, Report of Vice Admiral (paper M 02658/15).

Pages 6-11: Covering letter No 49 dated 17 March 1915 from Vice Admiral Commanding Eastern Mediterranean Squadron (Vice Admiral Carden). Report is a narrative of events during the operations of the Allied and French Squadrons against the defences of the Dardanelles, reports of Flag Officers and Commanding Officers of the various ships. Officers recommended for service are named.

Pages 12-30: Enclosure 1. Narrative of events 19 Feb to 16 March 1915. Daily details given. In some cases hour by hour list of key events. Ships involved named. Geographical location of events given.

Pages 31-44: Enclosure 2. Orders for the forcing of the Dardanelles dated 14 Feb 1915. Memorandum No 49 issued by Vice Admiral SH Carden. Includes hand drawn sketch showing ship courses and bearings, instructions for aircraft, list of ships and pendant boards, notes on NID 838 Turkey coast defences.
