Folio 13: Remarks about the medical conditions on board HMS Redpole. Generally thought during January 1814 that because there were so many catarrhal complaints that HMS Redpole should go into harbour because there were not enough hands to work the ship. Freely (the ship's surgeon) requested the captain to issue an order that every man be supplied with flannel drawers and waistcoats and that they be obliged constantly during the winter season to wear them. Ten days had scarcely elapsed when coughs and catarrhs vanished and the Brig was never more healthy. Reference is also made to several cases of dysenteria amongst the ship's company after they had arrived in Deptford and its possible causes, and details of treatment.
