Medical journal of His Majesty's Prison Hospital ship Le Pegaze [Le Pegase] from the 25 January 1804 to 14 January 1805 by [William Bickley Smith?], Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in Portsmouth Harbour as a hospital ship for sick and wounded prisoners of war. (Described at item level).
The journal is in the form of a table with columns recording; Men's names, ages and qualities; When and where put on the sick list; Statement of the case when put on the sick list; symptoms and treatment when under cure; When discharged to duty, died or sent to the hospital; and, Remarks. The remarks column has a list entitled Ships Pharmacopoeia, listing medicines used in treatment. The cases listed are the crew of the ship, not the prisoners held on board.
