Description

Medical journal of the emigrant ship David Clark, from 6 June to 2 November 1839 by Archibald Gilchrist, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a passage from Greenock to Port Phillip, Australia.

Folios 12-15: Surgeon's general remarks. Description of the ship, David Clark of Greenock. The emigrants were embarked at Greenock on 6 June 1839 and was finished on the 13 June. The number of emigrants amounted to 229 being about 40 fewer than the ship had been fitted up for. They were classified as above 50 years of age, 3 males, 2 females; between 40 and 50, 14 males and 11 females; between 30 and 40, 14 males and 7 females; between 20 and 30, 40 males and 32 females; between 14 and 20, 26 males and 15 females; between 2 and 14, 26 males and 21 females; between 1 and 2, 7 males and 10 females; below 1 year of age, 1 female.
